AI continues to change the face of search and social. From X training its AI to searchGPT launching as a Google competitor, we’re in some wild times. Let’s dive into this week in social media news.
1. Does Google have a competitor?
SearchGPT has been announced! Could they actually compete with Google?
OpenAI is testing a ChatGPT-powered search engine that could put the artificial intelligence company in direct competition with search giant Google and affect the flow of internet traffic seeking news and other timely information.
San Francisco-based OpenAI said Thursday it is releasing a preview of the SearchGPT feature to get feedback from a small group of users and publishers.
2. The case against TikTok, according to the DOJ
Here’s an update in the ongoing case against TikTok:
TikTok collected data about its users’ views on sensitive topics and censored content at the direction of its China-based parent company, the Justice Department said Friday, making its most forceful case to date that the video-sharing app poses a national-security threat.
The sensitive topics TikTok tracked included the views of its U.S.-based users on gun control, abortion and religion, the Justice Department said.

3. X allows you to opt out of Grok AI training
Yes, the default is to opt-in, which isn’t a surprise. Here’s what you need to know, from Windows Central:
- Elon Musk recently announced “the world’s most powerful training cluster” that will be used to transform Grok into “the most powerful AI by every metric by December this year.”
- Interestingly, X recently shipped a new Data Sharing experience that’s enabled by default and uses your data to train Grok.
- The feature is hidden in the platform’s privacy settings and can only be disabled on the web app.
4. Instagram shares Livestream tips
