Here are a few big things from this week! None of these are big surprises, but they could definitely impact your work. Let’s take a look.
1. YouTube is requiring AI disclosures from Creators
This seems like a no-brainer as platforms push toward responsible AI use.
From YouTube:
That’s why today, we’re introducing a new tool in Creator Studio requiring creators to disclose to viewers when realistic content – content a viewer could easily mistake for a real person, place, scene, or event – is made with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI. We’re not requiring creators to disclose content that is clearly unrealistic, animated, includes special effects, or has used generative AI for production assistance.
2. Instagram is testing longer Reels to maximize engagement
It’s looking like 3-minute Reels are being tested on Instagram. This is pretty common as platforms continue on the never-ending quest for engagement, and TikTok has succeeded with longer content.
From Social Media Today:
As you can see in this example, posted by Justin Jarvis (and shared by Matt Navarra), some users are now being prompted to upload 3 minute videos for their Reels, up from the current 90 second limit.
Which Instagram has actually been experimenting with for some time, with 10 minute uploads also in early examination at IG HQ.
3. Google is integrating social posts into business listings
If you needed more pressure to keep up your social media presence, Google will start pulling posts into your search listings.
From Search Engine Journal:
- Google now automatically displays social media posts on Google Business Profiles.
- Businesses can manage which social media profiles are connected.
- You can connect one account per social media platform to your Google Business Profile.
