The Instagram Notes feature is not exactly new at this point, but it’s one that you may or may not have experimented with as a part of your strategy. Launched in Dec. 2022, the feature has undergone an evolution over the past year and a half. Just this week, they rolled out some features that you may not be familiar with.
This will be a brief look at the tool and how you may be able to incorporate some of the features into your own strategy, even as a publisher.
How it works
The premise is simple: Notes are temporary text posts. New updates also allow comments for a semi-private audience (you can only see comments from people you follow, even on your own post) on regular Instagram content. Here is a more detailed description from The Verge:
Users will now be able to leave Notes on Reels and grid posts, where their comments will float on top of the content in little bubbles. Like Notes, these comments are temporary — they’ll disappear after three days unless you delete them earlier. The new temporary comments are also semiprivate, and users can tailor who’s able to see their comment: either your curated list of close friends or followers you follow back. Based on screenshots, it also appears as though users can tag each other in Notes on Reels and posts. They’re basically hidden comments for a smaller audience.
How the Instagram Notes feature can be useful for you
There are a lot of ways to use this feature, even as a brand. Here’s a quick list of ways to use this feature to your benefit:
- Post fleeting updates or small tidbits without cluttering up your feed.
- Engagement is essential to success on Instagram, and using new tools to communicate with your audience is always beneficial.
- Lightweight content creation! Share an update without the lift of graphic design or video editing.
- Humanize your brand! Posting fleeting thoughts that will vanish removes the barrier of production. This can help people connect with the people behind the brand and lead to a higher level of trust and communication.
- Accessibility. It’s easy and non-committal, which can help with creating simple content more consistently.
In short, it’s a low-commitment way to share content with your audience.
