LinkedIn adds a few new features, Instagram is helping with DM clutter, Meta’s testing AI age verification, and more!

Social Media Management Software

LinkedIn is finally giving creators more options with boosted posts, allowing them to turn content into ads. Instagram is helping out Creators with a new DM filter. TikTok’s local operations are shut down in Canada. There’s a LOT going on in social media news this week!

1. LinkedIn adds new lead gen objective to boosted posts

LinkedIn is adding a new feature to help publishers get better conversions on boosted posts.

From LinkedIn:

Why does this matter: LinkedIn members interact with company Pages over two billion times per month, gaining professional insights and staying informed about industry trends. With the introduction of post boosting for Lead Generation, you can turn your content into ads, using first-party data to capture high-quality leads, extending your reach beyond your existing LinkedIn Page followers.

2. Instagram adds new DM filters

This should be a huge help to creators. DM spam and overload are real!

From Adam Mosseri:

📣 Introducing improvements to DMs for creators, including new ways to filter message requests so you can easily find the messages you don’t want to miss. There’s a lot more work to do to make DMs easier for creators to navigate, so keep the feedback coming.

3. Meta’s testing AI age verification

Lying about your age on Instagram is about to get harder. Meta is testing out new AI tools to detect teens lying about their age and automatically convert them to teen accounts, which are more restricted.

From the BBC:

Instagram is introducing a software tool called an ‘adult classifier’ early next year that will use profile account data to categorise users into two age groups – older or younger than 18.

The software will look at information such as the user’s follower list, the content they interact with and ‘happy birthday’ posts from friends, and use this to predict their age.

If the software suspects that the user is under 18, they will be automatically placed into a teen account – regardless of how old they claim to be on their profile.

4. TikTok local operations are now shut down in Canada

The app is still available, but the company can’t operate in Canada. Once again, the government cited security concerns.

From Reuters:

Canada on Wednesday ordered Chinese-owned TikTok’s business in the country to be dissolved, citing national-security risks, but added the government was not blocking Canadians’ access to the short-video app or their ability to create content.

“The government is taking action to address the specific national security risks related to ByteDance Ltd’s operations in Canada through the establishment of TikTok Technology Canada Inc,” Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in a statement.

5. Pinterest reaches new high for users in Q3

According to their Q3 report, Pinterest has added 15 million more users, blowing by their Q2 growth of 4 million.

Social Media Today has an interesting recap of the company’s drift post-COVID, but it looks like they’re back on track for a solid end to the year.

From SMT:

Back in 2020, amid the COVID lockdowns, which forced everyone to shop from home, Pinterest saw a big rise in usage, and the assumption from many market analysts had been that this would spark a sustained shift in broader shopping trends. But once physical stores re-opened, most people went back to their regular shopping habits, and Pinterest usage dropped in response.

It took a little while to recover, but Pinterest has now well surpassed those COVID highs, and is on the way building a more solidified foundation for ongoing success.
