X Premium+ is ad-free, Instagram Carousels are even bigger, in-app Amazon shopping from TikTok and Pinterest… and more

Pinterest’s TV Studio

X is ramping up their Premium+ features. Meanwhile, YouTube is playing around with a format that integrates short-form and long-form video, a la Meta. Instagram’s Carousel feature is growing. TikTok and Pinterest have inked a deal with Amazon that allows users to buy products without leaving their apps. Here’s what’s going on in social news this week!

1. X removes all ads for Premium+ subscribers

Premium+ users have long been “ad-free,” but that didn’t always apply to the entire platform. Certain places (the replies, for example) still showed ads for Premium+ users. That has changed.

2. Instagram’s Carousels can now hold 20 photos

Users have been limited to ten photos on Instagram since the launch of the Carousel in 2017. As of last week, that limit has doubled.

From The Verge:

Each carousel post can now have up to 20 photos or videos. Users could previously add up to 10 pieces of content to each carousel post — something that’s colloquially known as a “photo dump.”

3. YouTube is experimenting with short and long form video content integration

Meta has tried it. It’s about time somebody else does, as well. This seems like a natural evolution as content lines become blurred and infinite scroll becomes the norm. Here’s so more explanation on the process.

From YouTube:

“To try to help viewers better discover content across channels, formats, and lengths on YouTube, we’re running a few small experiments on the Watch Page and with Shorts. If you’re a viewer in the experiment, these new discovery experiences could include a mix of video formats including long-form videos where you’d usually see Shorts (example: the Shorts Feed) or new feeds of long-form videos.”

Could be an interesting development to watch!

4. TikTok and Pinterest will allow Amazon sales in-app

This is interesting. TikTok and Pinterest are both set to allow in-app sales from Amazon.

From Yahoo! Finance:

Amazon (AMZN) app will now be more powered as TikTok and Pinterest will soon enable buying from the online retailer in-app, an Amazon spokesperson tells Bloomberg.

We wonder what that means for TikTok shop?
